In central Lviv, vandals have damaged a new public toilet causing over UAH 75,000 in losses

In the inclusive public toilet at 7 Svobody Avenue in Lviv, acts of vandalism have been recorded almost daily over the past month. Unknown individuals are damaging equipment, destroying plumbing fixtures, littering the premises and making it difficult to use the toilet. According to LKP «Ratusha servis», losses for the community have already exceeded 75 thousand hryvnias.

This concerns a modern modular inclusive toilet on Svobody Avenue, installed in the open air. The facility has two cubicles — an inclusive one and a standard one, is equipped with a payment panel and marked with the inscription “WC” and pictograms indicating accessibility for different categories of visitors.

LKP «Ratusha servis» notes that the damage is being recorded by CCTV cameras: groups of young people break elements of the equipment, try to enter the cubicles without paying, engage in other hooligan behaviour and litter the premises and the surrounding area. Because of deliberate damage, the main impact is on the inclusive cubicle for people with disabilities and visitors with limited mobility, which periodically prevents it from operating properly and requires additional repairs.

Among the elements already damaged are the decorative panel with payment equipment, the contactless payment device, the coin acceptor, electromagnetic locks, sensor liquid soap dispensers, toilet paper and paper towel dispensers, the baby changing table and other components of the toilet. The total value of the damaged property is estimated at more than 75 thousand hryvnias.

Lviv City Council reminds residents that the public toilet is common property of the people of Lviv, and the costs of its installation, maintenance and repair are covered by the city budget. Therefore, every act of vandalism is an additional burden on the budget and an inconvenience for thousands of residents and visitors to the city who use this service.

All incidents have been captured by CCTV cameras. The city urges residents of Lviv and tourists to treat urban infrastructure facilities with care, to protect the community’s common property and not to ignore cases of its destruction.

The inclusive modular toilet on Svobody Avenue, 7 came into operation at the end of 2024. In the first month it was used 2001 times, on average about 65 uses per day. The service costs 20 UAH for all visitors, and payment can be made in cash or by bank card via the appropriate devices.

The toilet is open daily from 09:00 to 23:00. In the absence of electricity supply, the module temporarily does not serve visitors, but thanks to a battery the doors remain operational for some time so that people can exit safely.
