One lane on Naukova Street in Lviv to be temporarily closed for heating network repairs

On Naukova Street in Lviv, from 18 to 22 August, one side of the carriageway will be temporarily closed. The reason is the continuation of large-scale replacement of an emergency trunk heating network, in particular a 720 mm diameter pipeline that runs under the roadway near the junction with Pidstryhacha Street in the direction of Kulparkivska Street.

According to Lvivteploenergo LME, repairs will be carried out on the traffic lanes in the direction of the Victoria Gardens shopping centre. On the opposite side, towards Sykhiv, contraflow traffic will be organised. The company notes that it has already replaced the pipeline on the lanes towards Sykhiv, and is now carrying out similar works on the other side of the road.

According to the city transport department, during the works trolleybus No. 22 will run towards the Bus Station along its usual route. In the opposite direction, it will be diverted via Volodymyra Velykoho, Troleybusna and Rubchaka Streets.

The modernisation of the heating network on Naukova Street has been under way since 29 July. Lvivteploenergo is replacing more than a kilometre of one of the most failure-prone trunk networks at five sections: at the junctions of Naukova Street with Knyahyni Olhy Street and Stryiska Street (Pidstryhacha), near the “1001 Dribnytsia” shop, as well as near buildings No. 17 and No. 28. The pipe diameter on these sections ranges from 270 to 720 mm.

These are precisely the sections where bursts most frequently occurred in the past, which meant that last winter heat supply had to be temporarily cut off to deal with emergencies. Overall, repair works on Naukova Street are scheduled to be completed by 29 August. While the network is being replaced, the supply of hot water to some buildings on this street has been suspended.

This year, Lvivteploenergo LME intends to renew around 15 km of heating networks to improve system reliability during the heating season. The company manages more than 560 km of heating networks, and over half of them have already exceeded their standard service life.
