Following discussions on amendments to the Sokilnyky master plan, a new development concept has emerged for the area near the Lviv airport. As reported during a meeting at the Lviv City Council, the plan involves creating an economic zone with the potential for up to 10,000 jobs. This would allow the Sokilnyky community to receive tax revenues exceeding half a billion hryvnias annually.
The concept includes the construction of logistics centres, warehouses, and large retail facilities instead of a residential estate, which would restrict the airport’s development. The need for building a cargo terminal at the airport and expanding the infrastructure is noted.
British companies involved in the project highlight the suitability of this area for development. Lviv’s chief architect, Anton Kolomeytsev, confirmed the technical feasibility of creating a transport hub on an area exceeding 50 hectares.
At the same time, local authorities and businesses oppose the decision favouring residential development, citing the risk of restricting the airport’s infrastructure expansion. Additionally, legal proceedings continue between the Lviv City Council and the Sokilnyky village council regarding changes to the village boundaries.
