Due to repairs on Stryiska Street, trolleybus routes 22, 23 and 25 in Lviv will change on 18 June

Current repairs are under way on Stryiska Street in Lviv, on the section from St John Paul II Avenue to Vernadsky Street in the direction of entry into the city. Due to the works, on 18 June trolleybus routes 22, 23 and 25 will be temporarily altered, the city’s transport department has reported.

On this day, the contractor will be reinforcing the base of the right-hand lane, above which the trolleybus overhead line runs, and installing manhole covers before the final asphalting. As a result, some electric transport services will be diverted onto shortened routes, while buses and private cars will be able to run as normal.

Trolleybus 23 will temporarily operate on the route ‘Riashivska — Khutorivka’ and will not run beyond Khutorivka. Similarly, trolleybus 25 will operate according to the scheme ‘Shota Rustaveli — Khutorivka’, with services terminating at the Khutorivka stop.

Trolleybus 22 will operate in a mixed mode: some vehicles with autonomous running capability will continue to operate on the usual route ‘University — Bus Station’, while other services will be temporarily shortened to Pidstryhacha Street, running on the route ‘University — Pidstryhacha’.

«On route 22, some of the trolleybuses will have autonomous running, so their route pattern will not change. The other trolleybuses, however, will run only as far as Pidstryhacha Street. Information on where each trolleybus is going can be found on the display boards», the city transport department explains.

Works on Stryiska Street are being carried out in turn on each of the three lanes, so while the outer right-hand lane is under repair, the middle and left lanes remain open to traffic. Any further changes to trolleybus operations will be announced separately.

As a reminder, the current repair of the road surface on the odd-numbered side of Stryiska Street, on the section from St John Paul II Avenue to the city boundary, began on 9 June. Here, as on the opposite side of the carriageway, the old asphalt is being removed and a new surface laid.

The repairs have been divided into two stages: first from Vernadsky Street to St John Paul II Avenue, and then from Vernadsky Street to the city boundary. The first section is expected to take up to three weeks to complete. The works are being carried out by the contractor Onur, with payment from the city budget deferred.

Once the renewal of the carriageway on Stryiska Street is complete, an additional fourth lane for public transport is planned in each direction. It will be created by redistributing the width of the existing carriageway and applying new road markings, without additional construction works, so the main road will have three lanes for general traffic and a separate lane for buses and trolleybuses.
