On 5 August, at 13:03, a fire was reported in Lviv at 12 Vasylchenko Street, on the second floor of a two-storey brick residential building. The fire was in the kitchen.
When the firefighters arrived, flames were coming out of the window and there was thick smoke. A dog could be heard barking from the apartment. The owners were not inside the house.
The rescuers immediately donned special respiratory and eye protection equipment and began extinguishing the fire and rescuing the dog. The firefighters used a ladder through the window to extinguish the fire and simultaneously opened the door to the apartment using a hand tool. Although the apartment was already filled with toxic combustion products, the Cane Corso dog managed to run out into the fresh air on its own.
The rescuers quickly localised the fire, thus preventing it from spreading. At 13:23, the fire was extinguished. The fire destroyed a window, a door and household items over an area of 10 square metres.
A total of 18 rescuers and 3 units of specialised equipment were engaged to extinguish the fire.
