In Lviv, Rescuers Save 5 People from Fire

A fire broke out in a five-storey building on Yavornytskoho Street in Lviv. Firefighters received the call on 23 March at 20:07, when thick black smoke was billowing from the windows of a flat on the third floor. Due to the heavy smoke, rescuers worked in special breathing and vision protection apparatus.

The stairwell quickly filled with toxic combustion products, complicating the evacuation of residents. Rescuers led five people to fresh air using rescue hoods. The fire was localised at 20:34 and completely extinguished by 20:44 over an area of 15 sq.m.

Eleven rescuers and three units of special equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire. The causes and circumstances of the fire are still being established, as reported by Lviv State Emergency Service.
