Work has begun on Shevchenko Avenue in Lviv to create a barrier-free space next to several buildings. This was reported by the Halytskyi District Administration.
The project concerns the buildings at 16, 18 and 20 Shevchenko Avenue. Here, the pavement layout will be redesigned and relaid in line with modern accessibility standards, taking into account the specific features of the city’s historic centre.
The project provides for ensuring access to four entrances to establishments and premises used by local entrepreneurs. Once the work is completed, convenient conditions of movement will be created for people with disabilities, parents with pushchairs, older people and other groups with limited mobility.
The work is co-financed by the Icelandic Ramp Up Fund, as well as by entrepreneurs operating on this section of the avenue. The Halytskyi District Administration notes that such business involvement is an example of shared responsibility for shaping an accessible urban environment.
The initiative is being implemented in the context of Lviv’s participation in the National Barrier-Free Week, which is marked in Ukraine from 25 to 31 May.
