An illegal kiosk that had stood for five years without proper documentation was dismantled on Konovaltsia Street in Lviv.
The temporary structure, located near the final stop of tram No. 2, occupied municipal land without any legal basis. After the original owner passed away, his family failed to remove the structure, prompting city services to act.
During the dismantling process, relatives of the deceased owner and their acquaintances obstructed the work of municipal employees, clashing with members of the “Municipal Guard.” A brief physical altercation occurred but was swiftly resolved after police intervention, allowing the demolition to proceed as planned.
📍 Key Details about the Structure:
-
Location: End stop of tram route No. 2 on Konovaltsia Street
-
Removed from Lviv’s Comprehensive Plan back in 2019
-
Structure remained without legal basis after owner’s death
-
Family was formally notified and given time to remove it
-
Lviv Executive Committee approved dismantling on February 25, 2025, with a deadline of April 15
The Department of Natural Resources and Construction emphasized that temporary structures are not inheritable property and have a set lifespan.
They added that all unauthorized kiosks in the city are subject to removal. Over 100 illegal structures have already been dismantled in Lviv, often following complaints from law-abiding business owners who pay taxes.
The city plans to improve and landscape the area where the kiosk once stood.
