In Lviv, traffic management and parking will be changed on several streets, and new raised pedestrian crossings and a segregated cycle lane will be installed. The relevant decisions were taken on 13 August by the city’s traffic safety commission to make getting around the city safer and to bring parking under control.
Following requests from residents and condominium associations, the traffic pattern will be changed in 6th Sknylivskyi Lane. The section by the new residential complex will remain two-way in the direction of Shchyretska Street, but parking on both sides of the street will be prohibited. From the middle of the lane to Vyhovskoho Street, one-way traffic will be introduced and a pedestrian crossing will be installed. The changes are planned to be implemented by mid-September, co-financed by the developer and the condominium associations.
One-way traffic will also be introduced on the narrow access road between buildings on Vyhovskoho Street, which connects Holovatoho Street and Horodotska Street. There are frequent difficulties here with oncoming vehicles passing each other. Traffic will be organised in the direction of Horodotska Street, and road sign 5.34 “Residential area” will also be installed. The works will be funded by residents and are expected to be completed by 15 October.
Parking will be regulated at the junction of P. Kovzhuna Street and M. Voronoho Street. Because drivers tend to leave their cars directly in the junction area, visibility is reduced and pedestrian movement is obstructed. Delineators will be installed here to prevent parking in a dangerous spot and improve visibility. They are to be installed by mid-September.
The problem of chaotic parking will also be addressed on Parovozna Street. Cars parked too close to the junction with Holovatoho Street often block access to and from the residential development and restrict visibility. At the request of residents, stopping vehicles will be prohibited on both sides of the street within the junction area, with the installation of the appropriate road signs. The works are planned to be carried out by 15 September at the residents’ expense.
A raised pedestrian crossing will appear at 386 Shevchenka Street, from the square to the entrance of the residential building. At present, the lack of a clearly defined crossing point causes inconvenience for people. The new crossing is intended to make drivers reduce their speed and make crossing the road safer. The works are scheduled to be completed by 1 October.
As part of the major overhaul of Pymonenka Street, on the section from Sichynskoho Street to Pasichna Street, raised pedestrian crossings will be installed, and the cycle lane will be segregated from the carriageway with delineators. In addition, the commission decided to install a raised junction on this street.
“There are educational institutions and other places with high pedestrian activity on this section. So all these decisions are intended to improve pedestrian safety and make traffic along this stretch of the street more orderly and safer for everyone,” the Lviv City Council’s Department for Safety and Street Infrastructure stressed.
The raised crossings on Pymonenka Street are planned to be installed by 15 September, the delineators by 15 October, and the raised junction by the end of the year.
