189 young men and women have started their studies at the Heroes of Kruty Lyceum in Lviv.
174 young men and 15 young women from 22 regions of Ukraine donned the uniform of the Lviv lyceum with enhanced military-physical training for the first time on September 1. During the ceremonial event, senior colleagues presented the newcomers with student epaulettes and lyceum badges. They were congratulated on the start of the new academic year by military officers, lyceum alumni, regional and city leadership, deputies, and parents. According to the head of the lyceum, Colonel Yuriy Husar, this is the second year girls have been admitted to the lyceum, and there are now 30 of them studying here.
“Despite the war, our lyceum had competition for all classes this year. We have a large geographical representation among entrants; these are children from all over Ukraine, as well as many who returned from abroad and enrolled with us. It is also worth noting the high level of preparedness of this year’s applicants. 70% of them thoroughly prepared for admission with tutors. Students from other lyceums in different regions are transferring and enrolling here. This indicates the high level of knowledge we offer, as well as a safe and quality environment where young people can develop their abilities and obtain what they dream of,” said Colonel Yuriy Husar.
77 new cadets are children of servicemen who defend Ukraine. Six freshmen are from families of fallen Heroes, and the parents of two other pupils are considered missing in action. The families of 14 young men and women were forced to leave their homes due to Russian aggression.
On behalf of the Lviv Regional Council, acting council head Yuriy Kholod congratulated the cadets, teachers, and parents. “First of all, I thank our defenders, those who hold back the enemy and allow us to learn and nurture the future of Ukraine. Among the pupils of our regional lyceum are 8 Heroes of Ukraine, and more than 250 warrior recipients of state awards. The current freshmen have worthy role models, and I am certain they will continue the tradition of honor and courage. For them, the words ‘Ukraine above all’ are not just a slogan but a life choice. I thank the lyceum teachers for raising thousands of protectors and hundreds of leaders in various fields. I thank the parents who supported their children’s choice during these challenging times. To the cadets, I wish strength of spirit, perseverance, and self-belief. I am confident they will be those who proudly preserve and build a strong Ukrainian state,” said Yuriy Kholod.
Many graduates of the lyceum choose military professions after graduation and continue their studies in specialized higher education institutions throughout Ukraine. Specifically, 73% of this year’s graduates are enhancing their skills in security and defense sector institutions.
