Darinka from Khmelnytskyi suffered from constant abdominal pain for 10 years until doctors correctly diagnosed Hirschsprung’s disease. This is a congenital intestinal disorder that causes chronic health problems. Doctors at St Nicholas Children’s Hospital in Lviv successfully performed surgery that changed the girl’s life.
Previously, Darinka was treated for gastritis, lactose intolerance, and duodenitis, but without success. Her condition worsened, and her parents turned to Lviv surgeon Halyna Kurylo, who suspected Hirschsprung’s disease. After a detailed examination, the diagnosis was confirmed.
Hirschsprung’s disease is a severe congenital defect that can lead to serious complications such as intestinal obstruction and body intoxication. The only effective treatment is surgical intervention. The operation was performed by the head of the surgical department, Denys Konoplytskyi, and paediatric surgeon Halyna Kurylo.
After the operation, Darinka feels well and can enjoy her favourite foods. “I’m delighted that I’m finally recovering. The abdominal pain and other symptoms have disappeared. I’ve even been allowed to eat a hamburger,” the patient shares joyfully.
The First Medical Association of Lviv provides all types of modern assistance, including diagnostics, treatment, rehabilitation, and prosthetics. The association comprises three hospitals: St Panteleimon, St Luke, and St Nicholas, as well as the UNBROKEN rehabilitation centre.
