
In Lviv, two children were hospitalised due to carbon monoxide poisoning. The incident occurred on 18 March in a flat on Skovoroda Street in the Lychakivskyi District. According to the Department of Civil Protection and Territorial Defence of the Lviv City Council, the poisoning occurred due to improper use of gas appliances.
The children born in 2020 and 2026 were hospitalised in a moderate condition at St Nicholas Hospital. Meanwhile, gas service workers cut off the gas supply to the flat. The causes of the incident are being investigated.
The main symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include severe headache, general weakness, drowsiness, dizziness, and vomiting. If such symptoms appear, experts advise turning off all combustion appliances, going outside into fresh air, and calling an ambulance and gas service.
As of the beginning of 2026, 37 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning have been recorded in Lviv, affecting 68 individuals, including 25 children. One case was fatal. Residents are urged to adhere to the rules for using gas and heating appliances to prevent tragedies.
