Lviv Resident Hospitalised Due to Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

It’s important to remember safety when using gas appliances, as a report has come in stating that in Lviv, a person was hospitalised after carbon monoxide poisoning. The incident occurred on 16 March on Parashchuk Street in the Frankivskyi district, where a man born in 1963 was affected. He was taken to the University Hospital named after Danylo Halytskyi in a mild condition. This was reported by the Lviv City Council.

Since the beginning of 2026, 36 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning have been recorded in Lviv, affecting 66 people, including 23 children. Unfortunately, one person has died. All cases are linked to non-compliance or violation of rules for using gas appliances.

Experts emphasise the necessity of ensuring the flow of fresh air in rooms with gas appliances. Ventilation channels and flues need to be cleaned, and the use of electric fans in such rooms is inadmissible, as it can lead to the accumulation of carbon monoxide.

The main symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include a severe headache, general weakness, drowsiness, with possible dizziness and vomiting. If such symptoms occur, it’s vital to immediately switch off all combustion devices, go to fresh air, and call for an ambulance and the gas emergency service.

In any gas-related accidents, it’s crucial to immediately contact city services: ambulance — 103, fire brigade — 101, gas service — 104, police — 102. These services coordinate and respond promptly to calls.
