In Lviv, changes aimed at enhancing the accessibility of medical services are being actively implemented. These innovations allow patients to receive consultations within 24 hours, and to see doctors even on weekends, which greatly improves convenience and reduces waiting times. This was reported by the Lviv City Council.
Experts highly value these initiatives, noting that they not only enhance patient comfort but also ensure timely medical assistance. Iryna Mykychak, advisor to the Minister of Health of Ukraine, emphasised the importance of such changes given the increased demand on the healthcare system due to the rising number of internally displaced Ukrainians.
The new service standards, such as the 24-hour consultation, “medical hotline,” and weekend appointments, have garnered consensus and support among medical experts. This underscores the importance of transitioning to patient-centred healthcare.
Svitlana Kohut, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at UCU, noted that these changes lead to a systematic approach that helps patients feel more secure and confident in receiving timely assistance.
The leaders of Lviv plan to continue investing in healthcare, providing clinics with modern resources and increasing salaries for medical staff to support such a patient-oriented health care system.
Additionally, the experience currently being implemented in Lviv has attracted the interest of other Ukrainian cities that are seeking ways to improve their own medical systems.
