Three Children in Lviv Poisoned by Carbon Monoxide

In Lviv, three children were hospitalised due to carbon monoxide poisoning on the night of 25 March. This was reported by the Department of Civil Protection and Territorial Defence of the Lviv City Council.

The first poisoning occurred in a flat on Snopkivska Street, where a boy and a girl born in 2025 were affected. They were taken to St. Nicholas Hospital in a mild condition. The second incident happened on Malytska Street, where a girl born in 2024 was poisoned. Her condition is moderate, and she was also taken to St. Nicholas Hospital.

Since the beginning of 2026, there have been 39 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning recorded in Lviv, affecting 71 people, 28 of whom are children. Unfortunately, one person has died. The cause of the poisonings is the violation of the rules for using gas appliances. Experts urge residents to be cautious when using gas or stove heating.

The main safety requirement is to ensure a supply of fresh air in rooms with heating appliances. It is important that ventilation ducts are cleared and chimneys are clean. If symptoms of poisoning appear, such as headache, weakness, or drowsiness, one should immediately turn off burning appliances, go outside, and call for emergency assistance.
