Free rabies vaccinations for pets launched in the Lviv community

A free rabies vaccination programme for pets has been launched in the Lviv community. The first location was Bryukhovychi, where in just two hours of the mobile vaccination point’s operation, 90 dogs and cats were vaccinated.

According to Mariyana Arendaruk, head of the community office in Bryukhovychi, the mobile point was set up next to the local community centre, and it was not only residents of the settlement who came for vaccination.

“Pet owners keen to use the mobile vaccination point by the community centre came not only from Bryukhovychi, but even from Lviv, Velyki Hrybovychi and the neighbouring territorial community, the village of Buda,” noted Mariyana Arendaruk.

Representatives of the agglomeration and community development office say there was also strong demand for rabies vaccinations in Bryukhovychi last year. Overall, within the Lviv community almost one thousand cats and dogs were vaccinated free of charge last year.

The organisers emphasise that people can bring not only their own pets, but also neighbours’ animals or strays for vaccination. The aim of the campaign is to immunise as many cats and dogs as possible in order to reduce the risk of rabies spreading.

Mobile vaccination points will subsequently operate in other settlements within the Lviv community as well. These preventive measures are being implemented by Lviv City Council together with the Regional State Veterinary Medicine Hospital and the city office of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, in order to protect residents from this dangerous virus.
