New Rehabilitation Department Opened at Lviv Oncology Center

Today, a renovated reception department and a new rehabilitation department were opened at the Lviv Oncology Center.

“This is an important step in the development of quality, modern, and accessible care for oncology patients in the Lviv region and the entire west of Ukraine. From now on, patients undergoing chemo- or radiation therapy, or having undergone complex surgical interventions, will be able to receive comprehensive interdisciplinary rehabilitation according to all medical standards,” said Oleg Duda, General Director of the Lviv Oncology Center.

The new department features a team of doctors: speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, physical therapists, and lymphedema specialists. Rehabilitation involves both physical recovery and the support of the patient’s psycho-emotional state. In the first half of 2025, over 100 patients have used rehabilitation services.

The reception department has become more comfortable and inclusive. It has adapted zones for people with disabilities, including bathrooms, ramps, and wide doorways. The department is equipped with apparatus for emergency care.

“Renovation works in these premises began last September. The project was implemented with funds from the regional budget and the oncology center’s own revenues. The total cost of completed renovations is over 22 million hryvnias, of which about 12 million are from the regional budget. It is very important that our medical institutions become spaces where patients can not only receive quality treatment but also effectively recover—physically, emotionally, and socially. This project for me is another step towards creating worthy oncological care and truly patient-oriented medicine,” explained Yuri Kholod, Acting Head of the Lviv Regional Council.

About three million hryvnias were also invested in new equipment for the rehabilitation department. The renovated reception department will ensure inclusivity and accessibility, optimize patient routes, and provide access to emergency and planned care.

A chapel of Saints Cosmas and Damian was also set up in the hospital, which was blessed by Bishop Volodymyr (Hrutsa), Auxiliary Bishop of the Lviv Archdiocese of the UGCC.
