The Best Medics of the Region Honored in Lviv

The best medics and teams from communal health institutions in Lviv region were recognized at the Lviv Regional Council.

At the start of the event, attendees honored the memory of fallen medics with a moment of silence. Under the guidance of the auxiliary bishop of the Lviv Archdiocese, Bishop Volodymyr (Hrytsa), prayers were said for all doctors and the sick. Representatives of the medical field received awards from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Lviv Regional Council, the military administration, the relevant department, and the trade union organization.

Doctors and nurses also received the Honorary Distinction “For Sacrificial Work” for medics who are part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. “Ukrainian medics firmly hold the line wherever they may be. They save the lives of our soldiers, bring smiles to our children’s faces, they are the first to arrive at the sites of Russian shelling, they risk their own lives without hesitation for the sake of others, evacuate, teach to perceive this world anew, and often achieve the impossible. Under extremely difficult conditions, Ukrainian medicine is becoming one of the most advanced in the world. In our resilience and our future victory, there is a huge contribution from hundreds of thousands who took the Hippocratic Oath,” notes Acting Chair of the Lviv Regional Council Yuriy Kholod.

For the implementation of state policy in the healthcare sector, the teams of the Lviv Regional Center for Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine, the Regional Medical Center for Prevention and Therapy of Dependences, the Zolochiv Central District Hospital, the Stryi City United Hospital, the Morshyn City Hospital, and the Zolochiv Center for Primary Health Care were recognized. Medics from Lviv region received certificates from the Lviv Regional Council, presented by Acting Manager of Affairs of the Lviv Regional Council Yaroslav Hasiak, for organizing work to provide medical assistance to military personnel, for contributing to the full recovery of defenders and civilians, compassion, sensitivity, and care from junior medical staff, for patience and kindness to every patient.

“We want as many people as possible to appreciate your work. The words ‘save lives’ are simple, but it is a great deed, and you do it every day,” said Yaroslav Hasiak during the event, thanking the medics and wishing them and their families good health and victory.

The ceremonial events for Medical Worker’s Day also included participation from the Head of Lviv Regional State Administration Maksym Kozytskyi, deputies Oleh Duda, Mykhailo Hichka, Nataliia Timko, Mykola Bilyak, and Mykola Ishchuk. Medical Workers’ Day is a professional holiday for healthcare workers in Ukraine, celebrated annually on July 27 according to a decree of the President of Ukraine.

According to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, over 510 doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers have died. The enemy has carried out nearly 1700 attacks on healthcare facilities, during which at least 128 medical workers were killed and over 300 were injured.
