At the Lviv Regional Clinical Perinatal Centre, doctors performed a complex minimally invasive operation on a 22-year-old patient: they laparoscopically removed a giant paratubal cyst 20 centimetres in diameter through several small punctures. This was reported by the Lviv Regional Council.
Doctors note that an additional challenge during the procedure was grade III obesity, which significantly increased the anaesthetic and surgical risks. Despite this, the medical team managed to completely remove the cyst and preserve the ovary and fallopian tube, giving the patient the opportunity to plan a future pregnancy.
The perinatal centre explained that thanks to the laparoscopic approach, they were able to minimise tissue trauma, reduce postoperative pain and ensure a rapid recovery. The woman was discharged home on the second day after the operation.
Doctors stress that paratubal cysts often do not cause noticeable symptoms for a long time. Therefore, regular preventive check-ups and ultrasound examinations are important for the timely detection of such formations and the prevention of complications.
