
On 14 July in Lviv a farewell will be held for three servicemen – Mykhailo Vakarov, Andrii Tymchyshyn and Roman Tkachuk, who gave their lives defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city authorities call on Lviv residents and visitors to join the ceremonies and to refrain at this time from entertainment events and celebrations.
The farewell for Andrii Tymchyshyn will begin at 09:00 in the Church of the Most Holy Mother of God, Queen of Ukraine of the UGCC at 34 Novoznensenska Street. The funeral service for Andrii Tymchyshyn, Mykhailo Vakarov and Roman Tkachuk is scheduled for 11:00 in the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. At approximately 11:30 a citywide farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. The soldiers will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery, in the Field of Honourable Burials No. 87 on Pasichna Street.
Mykhailo Vakarov “Andron” (10.11.1969 — 01.06.2024) was a native of Lviv. He studied at Primary School No. 4 and later at Lyceum No. 21 of the Lviv City Council. He received his vocational education at a vocational training institution in Lviv, where he qualified as a stained-glass artist. He completed compulsory military service and worked as a stained-glass artist in private enterprises. According to his family, Mykhailo was a loving husband and father, a loyal friend, responsible and courageous, distinguished by his kindness, sincerity and diligence. A special place in his life was occupied by the art of stained glass, to which he devoted many years. In 2023 he rose to the defence of Ukraine, fighting in the Donetsk sector as part of the 116th Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Mykhailo Vakarov is survived by his mother, wife, two daughters, son, brother, nephews and other relatives.
Andrii Tymchyshyn (05.12.1991 — 16.02.2025) was also from Lviv. He studied at Lviv Secondary Comprehensive School I–III degrees No. 7, and obtained his higher education at a Lviv university, specialising in “International Tourism” and qualifying as a manager of international tourism. He completed compulsory military service and worked in the trade sector in private enterprises. His family remember Andrii as a kind, sincere, caring and cheerful person with a positive outlook on life and a love of animals. He was passionate about motorbikes and technology, was handy with tools, and loved cooking, fishing and spending time in nature. In 2024 he joined the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders, protecting the state in the Donetsk sector as part of the 100th Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Andrii Tymchyshyn is survived by his mother, brother and family.
Roman Tkachuk (01.02.1988 — 09.07.2026) was from Lviv and a graduate of Secondary Comprehensive School No. 90 in Lviv. After school he received vocational education at the Lviv Vocational College of Hotel, Tourism and Restaurant Service. According to his loved ones, Roman was kind, sincere, sensitive and fair, always supporting those in need of help, a reliable pillar for his family and a loyal friend. In his free time he was interested in the history of his native region and searched for historical artefacts. With the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion he rose to the defence of Ukraine. He served in the Southern Slobozhanskyi and Donetsk sectors as part of the 125th Separate Heavy Mechanised Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was awarded the Order “For Merit”, the badge “For Exemplary Service”, the medal “For Wounds”, the medal “Cross of the Territorial Defence Forces” and the badge “War Veteran”. Roman Tkachuk is survived by his wife, sister, niece, father-in-law and other relatives.
