Sokal region is mourning the loss of a true Hero. On October 20, 2025, the heart of Bohdan Chernii stopped after a serious illness related to his military service.
He was a resident of the village of Zabużzhia, Lviv region, and was 52 years old.
Bohdan was born on December 21, 1973. He spent his childhood and school years in Zabużzhia before moving to Latvia with his family. There, he completed his education and became a certified welder. In 1992, he returned to Ukraine, where he got married and became a father to a daughter named Oksana.
When the full-scale war broke out, Bohdan volunteered to join the Ukrainian forces. On March 2, 2022, he began his service in the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. He served as a second-category border service inspector and anti-tank missile operator in the 1st group.
His military path took him through the combat zones of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, where he bravely defended Ukraine, its people, and its freedom.
Unfortunately, his health deteriorated due to the service. In October 2024, he was demobilized for medical reasons. Despite receiving treatment at home, he was officially recognized as a war-disabled veteran on October 6, 2025. Just two weeks later, on October 20, his heart stopped.
The community extends heartfelt condolences to his mother Mariia Petrivna, daughter Oksana, brother Petro, and the entire family.
A farewell ceremony for the Hero will begin on October 22 at 2:00 PM near the Church of Saints Peter and Paul. The funeral procession will then head to his family home in Zabużzhia for the prayer service. The funeral will take place on October 23 at 11:00 AM.
Eternal memory and glory to the Defender of Ukraine.
