On Wednesday, 11 March, Lviv will hold a final farewell for serviceman Ihor Savka, who gave his life defending Ukraine against Russian invaders. This was reported by city-adm.lviv.ua. The City Council is calling on residents and visitors to Lviv to attend the farewell ceremony and to refrain from any entertainment events on this day.
The funeral service will begin at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. At approximately 11:30, a city-wide farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. The defender will be laid to rest at Ryasne Cemetery, in the military section.
Ihor Savka was born on 7 March 1970 in the village of Nyklovychi, Lviv Oblast. He received his primary education at Nyklovytska School under the Rudky City Council in Sambir District, and later qualified as a milling machine operator at the Lviv Higher Vocational Polytechnic College. He completed his compulsory military service, after which he worked as a milling machine operator at the Lviv Colour Television Plant “Electron-Ryasne”.
According to his family, Ihor had a love of the forest and mushroom picking, enjoyed cooking, and cherished time spent with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Altar Brotherhood, and was known for his sincerity, kindness, and sense of responsibility. In 2024, he answered the call to defend his homeland and served to protect the territorial integrity of Ukraine in the Donetsk direction as part of the 100th Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. He was killed on 8 August 2024. He is survived by his mother, son, daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, daughter-in-law, brothers, sisters, and wider family.
