On Friday, March 6, Lviv will honor the memory of soldiers Volodymyr Yaskiv and Vasyl Hruba, who heroically died while performing combat missions. According to city-adm.lviv.ua, residents and guests of the city are asked to participate in the city mourning event and refrain from entertainment and celebrations on this day.
The farewell ceremony for Volodymyr Yaskiv will begin at 09:00 at the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God on Lychakivska Street, 175. After that, at 11:00, a funeral rite for both heroes will take place at the Garrison Church of SS. Peter and Paul. At 11:30, a citywide farewell ceremony is scheduled at Rynok Square. Volodymyr Yaskiv will be buried in the Field of Honor No. 87 at Lychakiv Cemetery, and Vasyl Hruba will be buried at the cemetery in the village of Zymna Voda.
Volodymyr Yaskiv was born on April 18, 1972, in the city of Novyi Rozdil, where he received an education as a gas welder and car mechanic. He had a love for fishing and gardening and was always cheerful. In 2025, he began defending Ukraine as part of the 151st Separate Mechanized Brigade. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and other relatives.
Vasyl Hruba (born in 1971) lived in Lviv. He was a master in the construction field and loved football and cooking. He defended our country in the Donetsk region as part of the 71st Separate Airmobile Brigade and served in the Military Medical Center. He was posthumously awarded the “Veteran of War” medal. He is survived by his wife and son.
