Russian Attacks Leave a Million Ukrainians Without Power

Last night, Russian attacks caused significant damage to Ukraine’s energy sector, leaving over a million subscribers without electricity.

According to Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, Russia targeted five regions with missiles and drones: Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odesa, and Chernihiv. At least five people were injured; fortunately, there were no fatalities.

“Throughout the night and morning, we are holding Coordination Staff meetings to quickly respond to the aftermath of the attack. I regularly report to the President and Prime Minister about the situation,” said the Minister.

Approved emergency response algorithms already allow for faster action: optimizing the mobilization of forces, accelerating firefighting, and minimizing the attack’s consequences. “Everyone—from those working at the shelling sites to the leadership of agencies and departments—knows what to do,” Klymenko noted.

Currently, rescuers have extinguished 14 fires, with efforts ongoing to put out two more. The situation with power supply is most severe in the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions.

Unfortunately, due to the threat of repeated strikes, firefighters in some regions had to stop firefighting activities. For safety, emergency workers are using remote extinguishing techniques, which include robotic equipment and foam generators.

“I thank every police officer, rescuer, and guardsman involved in extinguishing fires, maintaining public order, and aiding people today, as well as energy and utility services. In times of Russian terror, you give hope for light,” the department head expressed gratitude for their service.
