Another 199 boys and girls will wear chevrons of Lviv Lyceum named after the Heroes of Kruty

Today, on 31 August, the Heroes of Kruty Lviv Lyceum with enhanced military and physical training hosted a celebration to mark the start of the new academic year.

Today, 31 August, the Heroes of Kruty Lviv Lyceum with enhanced military and physical training hosted a celebration to mark the start of the new academic year. Today, 199 lyceum students marched in the first formation in front of the lyceum. This year, for the first time, girls were admitted to the 10th grade, and appropriate living conditions were created for them. Traditionally, senior lyceum students presented the first-year students with shoulder straps and chevrons of a Kruty lyceum student.

This year, 199 lyceum students from 23 regions of Ukraine have entered the Lviv Lyceum named after the Heroes of Kruty. In particular, 30 boys and girls will study in the 8th grade, 61 in the 9th grade, and 108 in the 10th grade. 9 lyceum students are internally displaced persons from Donetsk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Kyiv regions and Crimea. 39% of lyceum students have parents who serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine or defence units, the vast majority of whom are combatants. 10 lyceum students have parents who were killed in action, went missing or are in captivity.

The head of the lyceum, Colonel Yuriy Husar, congratulated the newly graduated students on the important event.

“At this crucial time for our country, you have made an important decision to join the ranks and serve your country. We are proud to have graduated 149 young men who are already serving in the ranks of military academies and are among the best.

We are also proud of you, because you have decided to put on a military uniform, become stronger and prepare yourself to defend Ukraine. Your choice to serve your country is an honour and a responsibility.

Parents, you have every reason to be proud of your sons and daughters. Their decision is an important step towards the defence of our country.

We are convinced that during your years of study, not only your parents, but also your mentors and teachers will be proud of you.

It is a great honour and a great responsibility to be a lyceum student,” said Yuriy Husar.

In support of these words, Nazar Bohun, a graduate of the lyceum and a cadet of the Kharkiv National Air Force University named after Ivan Kozhedub, said:

“I am honoured to stand here today. For me, this lyceum is not just an educational institution. It became the place that shaped me as a person and gave me the opportunity to become better. Today, I am honoured to be a team leader and the best cadet at the Air Force University.

At this crucial time for our country, Ukraine needs experienced, intelligent and determined leaders. At the lyceum, we were not only taught, but also encouraged to be the best among equals so that we could become leaders – not only in academies, but also in military brigades.

I am grateful to the lyceum for everything it gave me. Here I learnt discipline, responsibility and a true spirit of brotherhood. Now, looking ahead, I know I am ready for any challenge.

I wish you success, endurance and inspiration! Glory to Ukraine!” added Nazar Bogun.

The best lyceum students were awarded with incentive awards. Two lyceum students were presented with paracord bracelets “Krutyanyn” and eleven more received badges “First among equals” (“Primus inter pares”).

The Heroes of Kruty Lyceum is a unique secondary specialised education institution in the Lviv region with a military and sports profile. Despite the high requirements for applicants, studying with an additional programme and certain restrictions, the lyceum has a regular competition for admission. This year, despite the martial law, the competition was for up to 3 boys and 5 girls.

According to Mariana Dmytriv, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Science at the Lviv Regional State Administration, the history of our country clearly shows that a state without an army is impossible.

“We have to defend our statehood, just like 100 years ago, fighting for freedom and independence.

You are the future of our country, its hope and defence. I deeply understand that you are those who are not afraid to take responsibility for the future of our country. You have a difficult but noble job ahead of you. You have many to look up to – both the heroes of the past and those on the frontline today. Let dignity, respect and integrity guide you in all the decisions you will have to make.

I wish you strength, endurance and self-confidence. You are our pride, our support, and we believe in your bright future.

Glory to Ukraine!” said Mariana Dmytriv.
