Today, Lviv will say goodbye to four Heroes who defended Ukraine

Today, January 17, Lviv Region will say goodbye to four more Heroes. Ostap Chygin, Myroslav Ovchinnikov, Yuriy Chopyk, Mykola Sakun died defending Ukraine from the Russian invaders. The City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremonies and refrain from entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral of Ostap Chygin, Myroslav Ovchinnikov and Yuriy Chopyk will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square.

Mykola Sakun’s funeral will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, at 2:30 p.m. – city farewell ceremony on Rynok Square.

Heroes will be buried at the Lychakiv cemetery.

Biographical references of Heroes

Ostap Chygin (17.03.1996-06.01.2023) native of Lviv.
He studied at the Communal Institution of the Lviv Regional Council “Lviv General Educational Sanatorium School No. 1 of I-III degrees named after Bohdan-Ihor Antonych”. Graduated from the Lviv State University of Life Safety, majoring in “Occupational Safety”. After completing his studies, he served in the National Guard of Ukraine.

In peacetime, he worked as a representative of the information center of the Limited Liability Company “Vodafone Enterprise Ukraine” in Lviv. Subsequently, he held the position of a senior specialist in the field of service at Universal Bank Joint Stock Company. He was fond of football.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he defended the Motherland from the terrorist state as part of the 24th separate mechanized brigade named after King Danylo of the “West” operational command of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Ostap Chygin is survived by his parents, sister, brother, cousin, two grandparents.

Myroslav Ovchinnikov (October 30, 1975-January 7, 2023) was born in Turka, Lviv region. Since 2000, he lived in the village of Chornobayivka, Kherson region.
He studied at the Turkiv institution of general secondary education I-III degrees No. 1 of the Turkiv city council. He graduated from the former Lviv Railway Transport College. In 1994, he completed military service in the Chernihiv region.

Since 1996, he worked at the 1st Lviv Signaling and Communication Distance, later – as a dispatcher at the Kherson Signaling and Communication Distance. In his free time, he was fond of football.

With the beginning of a full-scale invasion, he joined the ranks of the 24th separate mechanized brigade named after King Danylo of the “West” operational command of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend the Motherland.

Myroslav Ovchinnikov is survived by his mother, wife, daughter, son, grandson, sister and wife’s parents.

Yuri Chopyk (October 4, 1984-December 31, 2022) from Lviv.
He studied at Secondary Secondary School of Levels I-III No. 31 of the city of Lviv, and later obtained vocational and technical education. During 2003-2004, he served in the military in Kamianets-Podilskyi.

After completing his service, he worked at the former Lviv Bus Plant.

In 2015, he performed combat missions in the area of the Anti-Terrorist Operation, and was awarded the “ATO Participant” badge. After returning, he worked at the Interregional Research and Production Association of Enterprises “Aviokon Project”, later founded a private enterprise and was engaged in the restoration of bathtubs.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he went to war as a volunteer, fought against the occupiers first in the ranks of the 80th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade, later in the 81st Separate Airborne Brigade of the Airborne Assault Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Yuri Chopyk is survived by his parents, wife, daughter, son, sister, brothers and grandmother.

Mykola Sakun (December 27, 1996-December 18, 2022) was born in the village of Chervone Podillia, Kherson Region.
He studied at the Chornyan secondary school of grades I-III. Received vocational and technical education in Kherson. After completing his studies, he completed military service in Mykolaiv.

Since 2020, he has been performing combat missions in the area of the Anti-Terrorist Operation/Operation of the United Forces in the ranks of the 57th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Kostya Gordienko, the operational command “South” of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he fought against the invaders in the eastern and southern directions. Despite the injury, he returned to the front.

Mykola Sakun is survived by his parents, sister and girlfriend.
