Lviv to Bid Farewell to Soldiers Who Died Defending Ukraine

On Wednesday, 13 December, Lviv will honour the memory of Ivan Manus and Nazar Ostrovsky, servicemen who died defending Ukraine from Russian aggression.

The city authorities urge residents and visitors to join the farewell ceremony and refrain from entertainment events on this day.

The farewell ceremony for Ivan Manus will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. Around 11:30, a citywide ceremony will be held on Rynok Square, and the hero’s burial is scheduled for Lychakiv Cemetery.

The funeral service for Nazar Ostrovsky will begin at 14:00 also in the Garrison Church. After that, at about 14:30, a farewell will take place on Rynok Square. The soldier will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

Nazar Ostrovsky (1985-2024)

Born in Lviv, Nazar studied at the Klymentiy Sheptytsky Greek Catholic Lyceum and at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. He later studied law at the Lviv State University of Internal Affairs.

He took an active part in the Revolution of Dignity. Afterwards, he volunteered to join one of the battalions of the National Guard of Ukraine, performing combat missions in the ATO zone. For more than ten years, he served in law enforcement, working as a police inspector and a specialist in combating domestic violence.

From the first days of the full-scale invasion, Nazar voluntarily joined the National Guard of Ukraine and took part in combat operations in Kyiv and Donetsk regions, serving in the 12th Operational Brigade “Azov”.

Nazar is survived by his parents, wife, young son and two sisters.

Ivan, a native of Lviv, studied at the Ivan Puluj Lyceum and Secondary School No. 67 in the city. He graduated from the Lviv Professional College of Transport Infrastructure of Lviv Polytechnic National University.

He was an entrepreneur and founded the Budsam company. Before the full-scale invasion, he worked at a company that equipped hospital wards for children with cancer. In his spare time, he was fond of fishing, mushroom picking and outdoor activities.

At the outbreak of war, despite his lack of combat experience, Ivan joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He took part in battles in the Kharkiv region as part of the 419th separate rifle battalion. He was respected by his comrades for his bravery.

Ivan is survived by his wife, 16-year-old son and sister.
