More than 3.2 thousand windows smashed in Lviv residential buildings as a result of the enemy attack: utilities and charities help to seal them with film
Lviv municipal services, together with charitable organisations and residents, are working to eliminate the consequences of the morning shelling: they are removing the remains of damaged windows and doors, removing construction waste and sealing the window openings with film.
In total, more than 3,200 windows in 161 residential buildings in Frankivsk and Zaliznychnyi districts were smashed.
According to preliminary information, 107 residential buildings in the Zaliznychnyi district were affected. Approximately 2700 windows were smashed and 40 roofs were damaged. In particular, of the 40 buildings with damaged roofs, 11 buildings had their ceilings collapse, either in the attic or between floors.
“Utilities have been helping to repair the damage since the morning. Also, charitable organisations such as the Maltese Service, the Red Cross and UNICEF are working in the area. In particular, UNICEF has provided construction materials – film for sealing windows, nails and hammers, etc. We will need about 6,700 m2 of film to cover all the windows,” said Igor Savka, head of the Zaliznychnyi district administration.
In the Frankivsk district of Lviv, work is also underway to eliminate the consequences of the shelling. In the area, 54 residential buildings were damaged, with around 500 windows smashed. As a result, more than 1,000 m2 of film will be needed to cover the windows.
Today, on 4 September, at around five o’clock in the morning, the enemy launched a combined attack on Lviv with rockets and shaheds. The attack killed 7 people, including children. Another 64 residents needed medical assistance, including 8 children. Seven patients are in critical condition. Five educational institutions, two art centres, two medical institutions, and the Church of St George the Victorious on Chernivetska Street were destroyed. Tomorrow, 5 September, has been declared the Day of Mourning for the victims of the Russian attack.
