
On Saturday, 1 March, Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Yaroslav Ivaniv and Serhiy Nimchuk, who defended Ukraine from Russian invaders.
The City Hall calls on residents and visitors to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from entertainment and celebrations during this time.
The funeral ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul. Afterwards, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a citywide farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square.
The defenders will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.
Biographical information about the defenders

Yaroslav Ivaniv (31.10.1992 – 25.02.2025). A native of Novyi Rozdil, Lviv region.
He studied at the Novyi Rozdil Secondary School No. 4 of the Novyi Rozdil City Council, Lviv Oblast. He graduated from Lviv Polytechnic National University with a degree in Urban Construction and Management.
After graduation, he first worked at SoftServe, an IT company, and most recently at Newfire Global Partners. He liked to spend his free time fishing, was fond of football and video games. According to his family, he was an exceptionally kind and bright person, the soul of the company, able to find a common language with anyone – he was loved by everyone who met him or was around him.
After the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he joined the 155th separate mechanised brigade named after Anna Kyivska of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend the state. He performed combat missions in the Donetsk region.
Yaroslav Ivaniv is survived by his grandmother, parents, brother and fiancée.

Serhii Nimchuk (24.03.1981-22.02.2025) was born in the village of Volynske, Kherson region.
He studied at the Volyn secondary school of I-III levels. After graduating from school, he immediately began his career, and for the past seven years he has held the position of deputy director of a utility company in Dubivka, Kherson region. He was fond of breeding pigeons. According to his family, Serhii Nimchuk was an extremely kind and sociable person, who loved life and adored his son.
After the occupation of Dubivka, Serhii Nimchuk’s family was forced to leave their home and move to Lviv. He volunteered to defend his homeland from the invaders and joined the 155th separate mechanised brigade named after Anna Kyivska of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He defended the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine in Donetsk region.
Serhiy Nimchuk is survived by his mother, aunts and 10-year-old son.
