Tomorrow Lviv will say goodbye to defenders Andriy Lysetskyi and Liubomyr Matsiuk

On Saturday, 21 September, Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Andriy Lysetskyi and Liubomyr Matsiuk, who defended Ukraine from Russian occupiers.

The mayor’s office calls on citizens to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral service for soldier Andriy Lisetsky will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul. Peter and Paul, followed by a citywide farewell ceremony on Rynok Square. The defender will be buried in the cemetery in the village of Zymna Voda.

The funeral service for soldier Liubomyr Matsiuk will take place at 12:00 at Lychakiv Cemetery.

He studied at the secondary school № 62. He received his military education at the Voronezh Higher Military Aviation Engineering School.

He was distinguished by his exceptional civic position. He took part in the events during the Revolution of Dignity, during 2014-2019, he performed combat missions in the anti-terrorist operation / Joint Forces Operation area as part of the battalions of the 24th separate mechanised brigade named after King Danylo. He took part in the battles for Mariupol, Pivdenne, Maryinka, Mayorsk, Zolote, Novoselivka, Kramatorsk, Popasna, etc. He was awarded numerous state decorations for his personal heroism in the defence of his homeland.

In 2019, he joined the military reserve.

Captain. With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he voluntarily returned to the ranks of the 24th separate mechanised brigade named after King Danylo of the operational command “West” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He fought against the invaders in the hot spots of the frontline. Despite receiving a severe concussion and an arm injury, he stayed with his comrades on the front line and continued to fight the enemy. He said: “Who will be here instead of me?”.

On 7 March 2022, his family lost contact with Andrii Lisetskyi. He had been missing for more than two years.

The Hero is survived by his mother, wife and two daughters.

Liubomyr Matsiuk (14.05.2002-16.09.2024) was born in Kamianka-Buzka, Lviv region.

He studied at the Ivan Franko Secondary School No. 1 of the Kamianka-Buzka City Council of the Lviv Region. He graduated from the Lviv Vocational College of Hotel, Tourism and Restaurant Services.

After graduation, he worked in the restaurant industry. He was fond of fishing, football, cooking and skiing.

In 2021, he signed a voluntary contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He met the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion on the front line. He fought against the Russian invaders in the ranks of the 24th separate mechanised brigade named after King Danylo of the operational command “West” of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. He was seriously wounded during a combat mission in Zolote, Luhansk region.

Liubomyr Matsiuk is survived by his parents, wife, two-month-old daughter and brother.
