Tomorrow, Lviv will say goodbye to two Heroes who defended Ukraine

On Friday, June 9, Lviv will say goodbye to two Heroes. Yurii Chornyi and Mykola Kozienko died defending Ukraine from the Russian invaders. The City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and to refrain from entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. Heroes will be buried at the Lychakiv cemetery.

Biographical references of Heroes

Yurii Chornii (May 17, 1970-June 3, 2023) was born in the village of Pidsadki, Lviv region.

He studied at Secondary Secondary School of Grades I-III No. 31 of Lviv. Graduated from the Lviv Vocational College of Hotel, Tourist and Restaurant Service. After completing his studies, he served in the military in Dresden.

In peacetime, he worked in the Czech Republic. After returning to Lviv, he worked in the field of printing. He was fond of football.

With the beginning of a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he came to the defense of the Motherland. During the year, he performed combat missions to ensure the air defense of the state. In the future, he fought against the Russian invaders in the eastern direction as part of the 125th separate territorial defense brigade of the “West” regional administration of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Yuri Chorniy is survived by his father, wife and two brothers.

 

Mykola Kozienko (February 26, 1984-June 4, 2023) is from Lviv.

Studied at Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko Lviv secondary comprehensive school of grades I-III No. 44. He graduated from the current Lviv State University of Internal Affairs. After completing his studies, he served in the military in Zolochiv, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk.

For about 10 years, he worked at the former Western Regional Customs. In his spare time he practiced karate and swimming.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he performed tasks on the territory of Lviv and Kyiv regions as part of the military unit A4084 of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Mykola Kozienko is survived by his parents and younger sister.
