Tomorrow, Lviv will say goodbye to warriors Volodymyr Smik and Roman Loboda

On Wednesday, April 10, Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Volodymyr Smyk and Roman Loboda, who defended Ukraine from Russian invaders.

Lviv City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

In the morning, at 09:30, a prayer and farewell service will be held at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Sykhiv.

The funeral rites for the defenders Volodymyr Smyk and Roman Loboda will begin at 11:00 in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square.

The soldiers will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery. In particular, Roman Loboda will be reburied in Lviv, as he was previously buried in Dnipro.

Biographical information about the defenders

 

Volodymyr Smyk (31.01.1973 – 04.04.2024) A resident of Lviv.

He studied at the secondary school of I-III levels №78 in Lviv.

He graduated from the Lviv Commercial Academy (now Lviv University of Trade and Economics) with a degree in economic cybernetics.

He was engaged in business activities in the field of metallurgy.

He loved sports, was a kickboxing coach and judge.

He participated in combat operations as part of the Joint Forces Operation. In 2019-2024, he defended Ukraine as part of the 1st Galician-Volyn Radio Technical Brigade of the Western Air Command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In March 2024, he was transferred to the 115th separate mechanized brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He performed combat missions in Donetsk region.

Volodymyr Smyk is survived by his wife, son, three daughters, mother, brother and sister.

 

Roman Loboda (04.02.1978 – 10.03.2022) A native of Lysychansk, Luhansk region.

He studied at Lysychansk Lyceum №30 in Sievierodonetsk district, Luhansk region.

He received his vocational education as a turner at the Lysychansk Professional Construction Lyceum.

In 1997-1998 he had the military service in the 169th training center named after Prince Yaroslav the Wise (formerly known as the Desna Training Center).

From 1999 to 2001, he served in the department of patrol and postal service of the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the city of Lysychansk.

From 2001 to 2005, he worked as a security guard at the Lysychansk Rubber Technical Products Plant Open Joint Stock Company. From 2008 to 2013, he worked as an electric and gas welder at the municipal enterprise “Lisichanskteplomerezha”.

He was awarded the medal “For Military Service to Ukraine”.

From 2017 until his death, he defended Ukraine in the ranks of the 53rd separate mechanized brigade named after Prince Volodymyr Monomakh of the operational command “East” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He performed combat missions in the Donetsk region.

Roman Loboda is survived by his wife and daughter.
