On Thursday, March 14, Lviv will say goodbye to soldier Volodymyr Lemishka, who was killed by Russian occupiers while defending Ukraine. Lviv City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.
In the morning, at 09:00, a prayer and farewell to the soldier will be held in the Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist in Vynnyky (61 Halytska St.).
The funeral rite will begin at 11:00 in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square.
The warrior will be buried at the new cemetery in Vynnyky (1 Tykha St., formerly Prosta St., 1).
The defender’s biographical information
Volodymyr Lemishka (“Bandyora”) (23.07.1978-08.03.2024)
Born and lived in the town of Vynnyky. He studied at the secondary school №47 in Lviv. In 1995, he entered a local vocational school and received a degree in car mechanics.
After graduation, he first worked in a forge and later was engaged in major repairs of vehicles.
He took a direct part in the events during the Revolution of Dignity and was a member of the 3rd Hundred of the Maidan Self-Defense. Since 2014, he has been involved in the creation of a volunteer center to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kyiv. He repeatedly accompanied convoys with humanitarian aid for the operational battalion named after the Hero of Ukraine, Major General Serhiy Kulchytskyi of the National Guard of Ukraine.
He is a senior soldier. With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he stood up to defend his homeland from the invaders. He defended the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state in the ranks of the 68th separate hunting brigade named after Oleksa Dovbush of the operational command “West” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was wounded three times, but returned to the front every time. For personal courage, he was awarded the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine’s medal “For Wounding”.
Volodymyr Lemishka is survived by his mother, brother and favorite niece.
