Three defenders of Ukraine to be honoured in Lviv tomorrow

On Friday, 13 September, Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Vadym Muravsky, Serhiy Oliychuk and Bohdan Udych, who were killed by Russian occupiers while defending Ukraine.

The mayor’s office calls on everyone to join the city’s funeral ceremony and to refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral service for the defenders will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, followed by a citywide farewell ceremony on Rynok Square. The soldiers will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

Bohdan Udych (28.02.1984-30.09.2023) was a resident of Lviv.

He studied at the secondary school №67 in Lviv. Lviv. In 2006, he graduated from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv with a degree in History and a qualification as a Historian. Teacher of History”.

After graduation, he worked at PepsiCo. Since childhood, he has played football and graduated from the SDUSHOR-4. He was also fond of playing chess and history, and won numerous regional competitions in these subjects at school.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He fought against the Russian invaders in the Zaporizhzhia direction as part of the 117th separate mechanised brigade of the 10th Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He held the position of assistant grenade launcher.

Bohdan Udych is survived by his parents, son, brother, nephews and extended family.

Serhii Oliychuk (11.06.1980-07.09.2024) was born in Halych, Ivano-Frankivsk region. He lived in Rohatyn until 2007.

He studied at Rohatyn secondary school №2. Later he received a vocational education.

Throughout his life, Serhiy Oliychuk worked in the construction industry. In his spare time, he was fond of fishing and mushroom picking, and loved literature.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he defended the state from Russian invaders. He performed combat missions in the Donetsk region in the 132nd separate reconnaissance battalion of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In a short period of time, he was promoted to the rank of “junior sergeant” and the position of squad leader. He was directly involved in the most difficult operations together with his colleagues, earning him great respect among them.

Serhii Oliychuk is survived by his grandmother, mother, wife, daughter and brother.

Vadym Muravskyi (16.09.1986-09.09.2024) was born in the village Ukrainka, Mykolaiv region.

He studied at the General Ukrainian secondary school of I-III levels. In 2009, he graduated from the Ivan Kozhedub Kharkiv Air Force University with a degree in Air Defence Systems and Complexes and received the qualification of a tactical level military officer.

After graduation, in 2009-2017, he served as an officer in the 540th Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi Lviv Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment of the Air Command “West” of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Subsequently, he joined the Special Operations Forces and was the commander of a Special Operations detachment.

Lieutenant colonel. He performed combat missions in the Anti-Terrorist Operation/Joint Forces Operation area. He gained his first combat experience as a member of the Dyka Kachka consolidated detachment of the Air Force in 2014 near Donetsk Airport.

In 2021, he entered the National Defence University of Ukraine, graduated from a shortened programme due to the outbreak of a full-scale invasion, and was assigned to the Special Operations Command. Since the beginning of 2024, he has been performing tasks as part of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine. He was awarded numerous state and departmental decorations for courage and bravery during combat missions, including “For Exemplary Service to Ukraine”, “ATO Participant”, “For Military Service to Ukraine” and “For Conscientious Service”.

Vadym Muravskyi is survived by his parents, wife, two children and sister.
