In Lviv region agrometeorologists recorded a warm and dry third ten-day period of May

In the third ten-day period of May, warm, windy and dry weather predominated in Lviv region, which affected soil moisture and conditions for growing agricultural crops. This was reported by the Lviv Regional Hydrometeorological Centre.

According to forecasters, the average air temperature over the ten-day period turned out to be 1.2–2.3° above normal and across the region was 13.7–17.2° above zero. The maximum temperature rose to 24–28° above zero, while the minimum during the coldest nights in the lowlands dropped to 2–6° above zero, and in the mountains it reached minus 1°.

The amount of precipitation during this period in the lowland part of the region was only 2–12 mm, which corresponds to 5–27% of the ten-day norm. Reserves of productive moisture as of 28 May in the 0–20 cm soil layer were insufficient for the emergence of even, friendly shoots in late agricultural crops.

Moisture in the 0–100 cm soil layer under winter cereals in most sown areas ranged from 130–150 mm. As a result of a significant and prolonged precipitation deficit, conditions for the growth and development of agricultural crops are assessed by agrometeorologists as satisfactory to unfavourable, and accelerated development of plants was observed.
