
Lviv Wushu athletes won 17 medals at the Ukrainian Championship
From April 27 to 31, the Ukrainian Wushu Championship was held in Brovary, Kyiv region, for adults, juniors, and youth. Athletes from 10 regions competed not only for prizes but also for the right to join the national team to represent the country in official international competitions.
‘Lviv region was represented at the Ukrainian Championship by 16 athletes and three coaches,’ said Roman Khimiak, head of the Department of Sports, Youth and Tourism of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
Competition results
Participants competed in various age categories and wushu disciplines. Each could compete in four program sections:
- complexes of formal exercises with short sports weapons (sword, saber),
- with long sports weapons (staff, spear),
- without weapons (various wushu styles),
- programmed sparring.
In the 9-11 age category among boys, the winner was Matviy Yakubiv, who took first place in two categories and third place in another (coach: Serhiy Ovcharenko).
In the same age category among girls, Kateryna Vovchanska took third place. She is a student of the Boberko Youth Sports School (coach: Veronika Klyuchak).
In the 15-17 age category, the absolute junior champion of Ukraine was Volodymyr Kunitsky, who took first place in all program sections.
Also in the 15-17 age category, the winners and prize-winners in different sections were:
- Champions of Ukraine: Maksym Kuzmych, Kateryna Starinshchak (two first places)
- Silver medalists: Viktoriya Tydash (two second places), Anastasiya Andybura, Volodymyr Nelyubin;
- Bronze medalists: Kateryna Starinshchak, Viktoriya Tydash, Anastasiya Andybura.
In total, the team brought home 8 gold, 4 silver, and 5 bronze medals. The athletes were coached by Veronika Klyuchak, Serhiy Ovcharenko, and Oksana Sotrykhina.
