Hydrological Situation in Lviv Region as of July 19

The hydrological situation in the Lviv region remains tense due to rising water levels.

According to the hydrometeorological network, precipitation in the Lviv region ranged from 1 to 12 mm, and in some places up to 22 mm, particularly in the city of Kamianka-Buzka. Over the past day, water levels continued to rise in most of the region’s rivers: in the Dniester basin rivers by 3 – 23 cm, in some places up to 26 cm, and in the Western Bug basin and in the upper reaches of the Styr rivers by 1 – 10 cm.

In the rest of the region’s rivers, a decrease in water levels of 2 – 20 cm per day was noted. At the hydrological post of the Stryi River in the city of Stryi (Dniester basin), the maximum water level Hmax = 224 cm was recorded on July 18 at 20:00. In the area of the hydrological posts of the Western Bug River in the city of Kamianka-Buzka, the Poltva River in the city of Busk, and the Solokiia River in the city of Sheptytskyi, water remained on the floodplain with a layer of 90 and 17 cm, respectively.

The next day, a decrease in water levels is expected on the mountain tributaries of the Dniester. In the lower reaches of the Stryi, Svicha, and Dniester rivers in the Rozdil – Zhuravno section, a minor flood wave with water level rises of 0.1 – 0.5 m above current levels is anticipated. In most of the Western Bug basin rivers and in the upper reaches of the Styr rivers, a gradual increase in water levels with a daily intensity of 1 – 10 cm per day will continue. Only in some tributaries of the San and Western Bug basins will a decrease in water levels prevail. In the area of the hydrological posts of the Western Bug River in the city of Kamianka-Buzka, the Poltva River in the city of Busk, and the Solokiia River in the city of Sheptytskyi, water will remain on the floodplains.
