“U-LEAD with Europe” experts launched a new educational program for representatives of territorial communities “Steps for specialists. Waste Management”. Five communities from Lviv Oblast were selected to participate in the initiative – Mostyska, Khodorivska, Boryslavska, Sambirska and Skhidnytska. The regional office of U-LEAD in the Lviv region informs about this.
“The main goal of the training program is to improve the understanding of the role and responsibility of communities in waste management, to increase the capacity of communities to develop and implement joint projects of regional importance in the field of waste management. In general, 48 territorial communities were selected for participation in the new training program across Ukraine, which will undergo comprehensive training and develop concepts for waste management projects. The community survey conducted in 2020 within the framework of U-LEAD showed that the topic of waste management, on the same level as the topic of water supply and drainage, occupies the first places among the problematic issues of Lviv Oblast communities. We hope that participation in this project will help the participating communities to solve one of these problems”, – reports the head of the U-LEAD regional office in the Lviv region, Halyna Khrushchak.
As noted in the regional office, the training program will consist of four modules with theoretical and practical parts that will help community representatives to develop a quality waste management system, including a number of management and financial issues.
In September-December, teams of community specialists will undergo comprehensive training, after which the selection of project ideas and the development of the waste management projects themselves will take place. Projects selected on a competitive basis will receive support from U-LEAD experts during their implementation.
Dmytro Laznenko, Viktor Gudenets and Tetyana Omelyanenko, waste management experts of “U-LEAD with Europe”, will work with the participants of the initial initiative.
The first online seminar took place on October 7, the participants of which were teams of specialists from 16 territorial communities of Rivne, Volyn, Ternopil, Zakarpattia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Khmelnytskyi regions. The measure concerned a sustainable waste management system during martial law and post-war reconstruction.
“There is a garbage sorting line in our community, there are ideas for waste processing, but we have certain problems with the reconstruction of the landfill, which we want to solve as soon as possible. As part of the educational initiative, we expect to receive new knowledge and recommendations from experts on effective waste management,” says Svitlana Dutko, a representative of the Sambir territorial community.
