With the onset of the summer season, checkpoints in the Lviv region experience a significant increase in passenger traffic.
Currently, traffic has increased by 25%, and this summer the number of travelers is expected to rise to 40% compared to the usual level. The greatest load is observed at the ‘Shehyni’ crossing point. The situation is complicated by extensive repair works on the Ukrainian side: old pavement is being dismantled and new engineering networks are being installed. This slows down the movement of both passenger and freight vehicles. Repair works are also ongoing at the adjacent Polish crossing point ‘Medyka’.
Queues at ‘Shehyni’ were observed throughout the night. Meanwhile, other crossing points – ‘Nyzhankovychi’, ‘Smilnytsia’, ‘Rava-Ruska’, ‘Hrushev’, ‘Uhryniv’, and ‘Krakivets’ – remain free, allowing travelers to choose less congested routes.
To avoid long waiting times, it is advised to plan your border crossing considering the time of day and the day of the week: ‘Departure from Ukraine: the least load is recorded on weekdays, especially in the early morning or late evening hours. Entry into Ukraine: weekends are more convenient’, note border guards of the 7th Carpathian Border Detachment. On weekends, passenger traffic increases by 16% compared to weekdays.
Over the past day, more than 43,000 citizens and over 9,000 vehicles crossed the border in the Lviv region. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine is actively implementing innovative technologies and digital services, expanding international cooperation to enhance the efficiency, speed, and comfort of border crossing.
