A fire occurred in an apartment in Lviv, resulting in the death of one person and the hospitalization of another.
On December 22 at 17:43, the Rescue Service received a report of a fire in an apartment on the sixth floor of a nine-story residential building on Kavaleridze Street in Lviv. Upon arrival, the fire and rescue units found the apartment completely filled with toxic smoke. Household items were burning over an area of about 20 square meters.
During the search in the smoke-filled apartment, firefighters discovered two people. Rescuers carried the 85-year-old owner out of the hazardous space and handed her over to medical personnel. The woman, showing signs of smoke inhalation, was hospitalized at the Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital. Unfortunately, her 58-year-old son died.
Since the fire caused heavy smoke and toxic combustion products quickly filled the stairwell, rescuers evacuated four residents from the upper floors using special rescue devices to ensure safety. The firefighters localized the fire at 18:12 and extinguished it by 18:23. Twenty-two rescuers and four units of specialized equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire. Specialists are determining the cause of the fire.
