Charity Campaign in Lviv Transport Aims to Raise ₴1.1 Million for VR Rehabilitation Device for Wounded Soldiers

Starting June 1, a citywide charity campaign will begin in Lviv’s public transport under the slogan “Good in Every Ride with Visa – the Path to a Life Without Phantom Pain.” The initiative is a joint effort by LeoKart, Visa, and the charity platform dobro.ua to support military patients of the UNBROKEN rehabilitation center.

The campaign’s goal is to raise ₴1.1 million for the VRNOW simulator—an innovative virtual reality device developed in Ukraine to help soldiers recover from phantom limb pain and regain mobility after amputation.

VRNOW combines virtual reality with physical therapy to accelerate recovery and reduce pain. It offers a cutting-edge solution for treating one of the most persistent and invisible challenges faced by war-injured veterans.

According to Oleg Bilyanskyi, head of the UNBROKEN center, phantom pain is a hidden enemy that can delay healing. VRNOW not only helps reduce this pain but also stimulates movement restoration in the affected limbs.

Every Lviv public transport passenger can take part by simply paying for their ride using a smartphone with a Visa card through a validator. For each such payment, Visa donates 1 UAH toward the purchase of the equipment. Passengers pay the regular fare—no additional charge is applied.

The campaign will continue until the full amount is raised. In addition to public transport users, anyone can contribute online via the dobro.ua platform.

Since the full-scale invasion began, Lviv has become a major humanitarian hub. In April 2023, the National Rehabilitation Center UNBROKEN was established in the city, providing free medical care to civilians and military personnel. Services include reconstructive surgery, orthopedics, prosthetics, psychological counseling, and physical rehabilitation.

On May 10, 2024, a 1,000-square-meter international-standard Prosthetics and Orthotics Center was launched within UNBROKEN with support from the German government. The center produces over 1,000 prosthetics per year and also trains future professionals and conducts research and development.
