Community Cleanup at Military Cemetery in Silets Village

Recently, in the village of Silets, employees of the Department of Culture of the Sheptytsky City Council, together with the youth of the ‘Plast’ organization and representatives of the Youth Council, conducted a community cleanup event at the military cemetery of Austrian soldiers from World War I.

In the near future, there are plans to renew the memorial cross, install an informational plaque on the memorial stone, and arrange lighting, said Yuri Hryniv, the chief specialist of the culture department. ‘We sincerely thank the young people for their concern and for contributing to the arrangement of the historical cemetery with their hard work, and the volunteers from the NGO “Foundation for Development and Strategic Changes” for their assistance with the means for conducting the cleanup’.

For reference. At the World War I military cemetery in the village of Silets, Sheptytsky district, located along route R-15 (Lviv-Kovel), 219 servicemen are buried, including 108 from the Austro-Hungarian army and 111 from the German army. The soldiers died between June 28-30, 1915, during the liberation of Galicia from the Russian army.
