Large-scale exhibition in Lviv marks the 100th anniversary of Volodymyr Patyk

The Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum in Lviv has opened a major exhibition, “Volodymyr Patyk. Painting as Life”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the renowned Ukrainian artist.

The display brings together almost 300 works by Volodymyr Patyk from museum, family and private collections. Some of the works are being shown to the public for the first time, as they have not previously been exhibited. Municipal museums of the Lviv Regional Council also contributed to shaping the exhibition.

The opening was attended by the Chief of Staff of the Lviv Regional Council, Yaroslav Hasiak, the Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration and regional council deputy, Maksym Kozytskyi, and the Deputy Chair of the Commission on Historical and Cultural Heritage and Tourism of the Lviv Regional Council, Solomiya Rybotytska.

“In each of his works, Mr Volodymyr conveyed to future generations the Ukraine he saw and felt: alive, emotional, vivid, at times sombre, yet one that undoubtedly gives grounds to reflect on every painting,” noted Yaroslav Hasiak.

The exhibition features works from various periods of the artist’s career: portraits, landscapes, still lifes, studies from nature, as well as canvases in the style of ethnomodernism and abstraction. Particular attention is paid to colour, which was one of the main means of shaping the image in the artist’s work.

Musical accompaniment at the opening was provided by the chamber orchestra “Lviv Virtuosos” of the Myroslav Skoryk Lviv National Philharmonic.

Visitors can explore the work of Volodymyr Patyk at this exhibition until 18 October at the Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum in Lviv, located at 20 Svobody Avenue.
