
In the village of Zashkiv in Lviv region, commemorative events were held on 23 May to mark the 88th anniversary of the death of Yevhen Konovalets, one of the founders and the first head of the OUN Leadership. This was reported by the Lviv Regional Council.
Participants gathered on the grounds of the Yevhen Konovalets Historical and Memorial Museum. Among those present were representatives of the authorities, servicemen and servicewomen, clergy and local residents.
Those present honoured the memory of the fallen Defenders with a minute of silence, laid flowers at the monument and lit memorial candles.
The Chief of Staff of the Lviv Regional Council, Yaroslav Hasiak, stressed the importance of Konovalets as a figure for Ukrainian statehood.
“The memory of such people reminds us of the price paid for Ukrainian statehood and why it must be defended today,” said Yaroslav Hasiak.
During the event, patriotic songs, poems and recollections of the struggle for Ukraine were heard. The event concluded with a joint performance of the march “Oi u luzi chervona kalyna”.
