At the Krakivets checkpoint, a service dog from the 7th Carpathian Border Detachment detected drugs on a passenger bus. Border guards forwarded the information to the National Police for further investigation.
During the inspection of a Ukrainian-registered bus traveling from Kyiv to Świnoujście, a spaniel named Jessica pointed to a suspicious suitcase belonging to one of the passengers. Inside, border officers discovered two zip-lock bags containing substances preliminarily identified as marijuana and amphetamine.
The suitcase’s owner, a 60-year-old British citizen, claimed the drugs were for personal use. Additionally, the inspection revealed two crossbows with arrows and two rubber batons, also in the man’s possession.
Border guards reported the incident to the National Police under:
- Article 309 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal possession and transportation of narcotics without intent to distribute;
- Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal handling of weapons.
It’s worth noting that since the beginning of the year, service dogs in the Lviv region have helped detect over 13 kilograms of narcotics.
