In Lviv region, arsenal of weapons uncovered after teenager calls 102

In Lviv region, after a 15-year-old boy called the 102 emergency line, law enforcement officers discovered a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition in a house, and his 60-year-old father was served with a notice of suspicion. This was reported by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the investigation, on 20 May this year, following a conflict with his father, the minor phoned the police and reported the presence of weapons and ammunition in the home. When the rapid response team arrived at the scene, they found and seized 5 cartridges for a Makarov pistol, calibre 9×18 mm.

During a further search of the house, law enforcement officers found items outwardly resembling two grenades and two fuzes for them, a smoke grenade, almost 600 rounds of various calibres, two rocket signal cartridges, a pistol, a shotgun, 5 knives, 8 magazines for automatic weapons, a sight and accessories for cleaning weapons. All the seized items were sent for expert examination.

The 60-year-old man was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Under the procedural guidance of the Pustomyty District Prosecutor’s Office, he was notified of suspicion of unlawful acquisition and possession of ammunition without the permit required by law (Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). At the request of the prosecution, the court imposed a preventive measure on the suspect in the form of remand in custody with the right to post bail.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by Investigation Unit No. 1 of Lviv District Police Department No. 2 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region. The Prosecutor’s Office reminds the public that, in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime until their guilt is proven in the manner prescribed by law and established by a guilty verdict of a court.
