In Lviv region, a nurse at one of the municipal medical institutions of the Sheptytskyi district is suspected of influence peddling while processing documents to obtain a disability status in order to secure exemption from mobilisation. This was reported by law enforcement agencies.
According to the investigation, the nurse demanded and received an unlawful benefit from a patient for exerting influence on hospital officials in issuing fake medical documents. These documents were then to serve as the basis for a favourable decision by members of the Expert Team for Assessing a Person’s Everyday Functioning (EKOPFO) on assigning the patient a disability group to obtain exemption from mobilisation.
The suspect priced her “services” at between 5,000 and 6,000 US dollars. Initially, the patient handed her 500 dollars, and later 3,000 hryvnias. On 26 January in the town of Sokal, during the transfer of the third instalment of the unlawful benefit in the amount of 600 dollars, law enforcement officers detained the nurse under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The woman has been notified that she is suspected of committing a criminal offence under Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (influence peddling). The sanction of this article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by investigators of the Sheptytskyi District Police Department together with operatives of the Security Service of Ukraine Office in Lviv region, under the procedural supervision of the Sheptytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office.
