Lviv Prosecutor’s Office Demands Return of Main Post Office to the State

The Lviv Prosecutor’s Office has approached the court with a demand to return the building of the Main Post Office in the city centre to the state. This property, covering an area of nearly 11,000 sq. m, is a monument of architecture and history, which is prohibited from being sold according to the law.

In 2010, the building belonged to the state and was registered under the Verkhovna Rada, later coming under the management of the Ministry of Infrastructure. In 2017, it was transferred to the statutory capital of ‘Ukrposhta’, and in 2020, the company registered it as its own property.

However, state property transferred to joint-stock companies must remain state-owned. Changing the ownership form to private is illegal, as the object did not undergo the privatisation procedure. These violations prompted the prosecutors to file a lawsuit to return the premises to its rightful owner – the state.
