In Lviv, prosecutors have submitted a motion to the court seeking the application of compulsory medical measures to a 22-year-old Lviv resident suspected of killing his neighbour on Stryiska Street. This was reported by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, one evening at the end of January this year, near a block of flats on Stryiska Street, a local resident injured his 41-year-old neighbour during an argument. The man suddenly pulled out a kitchen knife, stabbed the woman in the abdomen and fled the scene.
Witnesses called paramedics, who informed the police. Despite the assistance provided, the following day the victim died from acute internal blood loss. After the attack, the man wiped the blood from the knife with snow and hid in a basement near the crime scene. Police detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine while he was hiding on the heating pipes under the ceiling.
The detainee turned out to be a local resident who had previously been prosecuted for theft and domestic violence. In 2024, the court imposed compulsory medical measures on him in the form of hospitalisation in a psychiatric hospital under general supervision. Last year, at the request of the medical institution, the court terminated the compulsory treatment and sent the man back to his place of residence under the supervision and control of psychiatrists.
According to the conclusion of a forensic psychiatric expert, the man suffers from a severe chronic mental disorder. His socially dangerous act is classified under the elements of a criminal offence provided for in Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional murder. He is currently in a psychiatric care facility, and the pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv Region.
