In Lviv, man sentenced to 3 years in prison for selling methadone

In Lviv, a 34-year-old local resident who organised a scheme for the distribution of the narcotic drug methadone has been sentenced to 3 years' imprisonment with confiscation of property. This was reported by the Frankivsk District Prosecutor's Office of the city of Lviv.

According to the facts established by the court, the man purchased methadone via the Telegram messenger, after which he collected the parcel at one of the automated pick-up points in Levandivka in Lviv. The drug had been packed into zip bags and concealed in children's clothing.

Subsequently, the convicted man went to another parcel locker nearby and sent two packages containing methadone with a total weight of more than 1.3 g to Poltava. That same evening he planned to send another parcel, but was detained by law enforcement officers under Article 208 of the CPC of Ukraine immediately before dispatch.

During the search, 28 packages were found on the man, each of which contained a "dose" of methadone. All the drug packages were also wrapped in children's clothing.

He was charged with the unlawful acquisition, possession and sale of narcotic drugs, committed repeatedly, under Part 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation in the case was conducted by Police Department No. 1 of Lviv District Police Directorate No. 2 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region. The court's verdict will enter into legal force after the expiry of the appeal period.
